Biodiversity Conservation
Like many parts of the world, Uganda is experiencing severe decline of biodiversity which calls for urgent collective environmental changes to reduce the risk of the problem from accelerating. With reports of endangered and extinct species on the rise, there’s no denying that biodiversity loss is the new reality where reports shows that 45 percent of mammals are at risk of extinction and plant life is not much better off, with two-third of plant species also at risk but the public is not taking action.
Good hope foundation for rural development, recognizes the importance of biodiversity as the key drive to the quality of lives of community members with its associated benefits ranging from medical breakthroughs to improved mental wellness and even a stronger and sustainable economic stability looking at food security, treatment of diseases, job creation, economic impact, human protection ranging from food supply and climate change as well as general health and well-being as a result of exposure to diverse habitats which have a huge positive impact on our mental health and then also climate change resistance which is largely caused by human activities that increase greenhouse gas emissions and decrease carbon capture, fuels biodiversity loss which can only be preserved by greater biodiversity.
Good Hope Foundation for Rural Development is therefore focusing at conservation and protection of biodiversity with focus on endangered species, habitat and ecological systems through creating education awareness, research, restoration, sustainable use of natural resources and advocacy by engaging local communities, local government, institutions, and companies in addressing biodiversity threats mostly linked to human activities and climate change.
